Education
Christian Hesse has been Professor of Mathematical Statistics at the University of Stuttgart in Germany since 1991, in addition, since January 2024, Visiting Professor in the Mathematics Department at UCLA, Adjunct Professor at the Hertie School, The University of Governance in Berlin. His research interests are in mathematical modeling and statistical data analysis with a focus on applications.
Chris received his PhD from Harvard University in 1987. Before he joined the University of Stuttgart`s Mathematics Department, he was on the faculty of UC Berkeley for 4 years and held visiting appointments at ANU in Canberra, Australia, Universidad the Concepcion, Chile, and Queens University in Kingston, Canada. He has published a large number of research articles and more than 20 books which have been translated into 10 languages. They deal mainly with applied probability theory, popular mathematics, statistics and chess.
